Greenwood Head of School, Brenda Boggess, and Bloomsburg University associate professor, Frank D’Angelo, collaborated this fall to create a Math Partnership program, sending over 30 Bloomsburg students to Greenwood’s campus to work with students, K-8. Bloomsburg students from D’Angelo’s Teaching Mathematics classes are working one-on-one with students in math classes and facilitating Mathletes, a weekly after-school enrichment club.  Bloomsburg students also planned and facilitated Greenwood’s Tracks and Impacts Math Day, a thematic, all-school event on October 22.

Within this cooperative arrangement, Greenwood teachers act as mentors, modeling Greenwood’s hands-on teaching practices and providing Bloomsburg students with guidance and support. The university students gain teaching strategies and experience while Greenwood students benefit from additional time and attention. This process allows for a deeper understanding of math concepts for Greenwood students and a higher level of achievement. The partnership will continue in future semesters.
