Greenwood Friends School (GFS) is seeking a full-time, salaried Director of Academics & Lead Teacher to champion our mission, vision, values, and DEIJ statement. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, this pivotal 12-month position is responsible for overseeing the academic operations of the school and collaboratively implementing the GFS Strategic Plan (2024). This position has an annual salary of $65,000, plus benefits.
The Director of Academics will provide leadership in curriculum development, instruction, and student life, including the supervision of teaching staff. This role also involves a part-time teaching load (estimated 10-30%), with flexibility for negotiation over time. You will be a key member of the Quaker Life and Personnel committees and an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with the Director of Administration & Business on all matters related to personnel, admissions, student retention, student life, and the strategic plan, ensuring alignment with Quaker testimonies and decision-making processes. Regular communication with both the Director of Administration and the Board of Trustees is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Model and integrate GFS's mission, values, and DEIJ statement into all operations.
Oversee and enhance academic programs, curriculum, and instruction.
Supervise teaching staff, ensuring timely and accurate record-keeping.
Collaborate on admissions, student retention, and student life initiatives.
Implement the GFS Strategic Plan in partnership with the Director of Administration & Business.
Act as a lead teacher with a part-time teaching load.
Serve as a primary liaison to various external educational and Quaker organizations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or credentialing in education strongly preferred.
Classroom teaching experience (Pre-K – 8).
Excellent communication skills and a strong desire for collaboration.
Familiarity with and appreciation for Quaker principles.
Experience working in or attending an independent or Friends school is a plus.
Ability to obtain child abuse and criminal background clearances, and current First Aid and Mandated Reporter Training certification.

Pre-K Classroom Teacher
Greenwood Friends School (GFS) is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate full-time Pre-K Teacher to guide young children in a dynamic learning environment. This 12-month salaried position reports to the Director of Academics and Lead Teacher with an annual salary of $30,000, plus benefits.
As a GFS Pre-K Teacher, you'll be responsible for preparing students for kindergarten by teaching fundamental concepts like numbers and letters, fostering social skills, and establishing effective classroom structures. We're looking for a creative educator who can inspire and develop young children through engaging, hands-on activities such as arts and crafts, free play, and storytelling.

Substitute Teachers (Current Opening)
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the substitute teacher is responsible for the continuation of all learning activities in the classroom. A spirit of cooperation, sharing, kindness and respect is expected at all levels. This individual must effectively implement instructional plans left by the teacher, communicate clearly with students and establish a positive climate, and maintain classroom discipline. Bachelor’s degree preferred and previous experience in a classroom setting required. This is an “on-call” position that yields a per-diem wage of $100.
